Silverlight
« on: September 03, 2013, 10:52:59 PM »

I'm disappointed about using Silverlight. It's unfair because it stigmatizes users of Linux. I know that you're about telling me of Mono and other tips to make it possible - belive me - I HAVE TRIED.

So my question is:
Is it totally necessary to use Silverlight to visualise battles ?

Greetings
Disappointed Linux Lover

At the moment yes, you have to use Silverlight.

When we were creating battle visualisation HTML5 wasn't supported by most browers. We didn't want to use Flash. Silverlight was working on PC and Mac and there was Moonlight project for Linux.

When we get some more time we will see if it's possible to transfer it to HTML5. I think this should solve problems with compatibility.

Get Rid of Silverlight

I've never had Moonlight work with Chrome/Chromium for the Visualizer, and that is now the world's most popular and standards compliant browser.  Ever since you guys added the last improvements to the Visualizer, Moonlight hasn't worked with it using Firefox.  That means I haven't used the Visualizer on Linux in years.

Microsoft announced the end of development and support for Silverlight a long, long time ago.

It would most probably require to rewrite quite a big chunk of code so... perhaps, no way, lol :/

Microsoft put us in a very nasty situation. We hoped they will continue to develop and most of all promote Silverlight, but they just stopped it.

I can't see any solution. We have to rewrite battle visualization. I can't tell you when will it happen. It all depends on our free time.
