I think that if mechs can carry equipment raw materials why not? they would be loaded as well as rigging but would imply a s having 20/sa after clicking on the 'Send mechs' would select for what purpose: attack, defense, and so on and so tranfer mechs could replace carriers, could also alternatively they collect field damage (will be a little trouble in programming to be able to move the rigging) :)

But actually, you already can carry things buy meches between your cities in extreme case - by attacking your own cities. They will loot as in any other case. Of course, it will be as any normal attack in any other sense as well, so better ensure there no defenders, satellites and harvesters are sent out or secure in bunkers, but things you try to move are exposed.

Transport units are very cheap to build and maintain, and reasonable minimum you want to have per city is about 40-50, experienced players sometimes have hundreds (because they actually extend storage that way)

To replicate that with mechs, your best bet would be X2-X filled spiders, what will cost you many thousands TIMES more.

Generally the same is true about harvesters.

I can imagine some edge cases where you can want to send supplies in mech cargo-hold, or even harvest with mechs, but none of those are actually part of this game right now.

Less important features should be simple so we can increase complexity when it comes to armies and battles. Thats why we don't plan to implement 2 different ways to transport resources.

It seem to be easier and cheaper to do it with support vehicles than to use Mechs for that.

it is better to create reapers in particular troop, however, in some situations, especially at the beginning of the game the possibility to be useful  ;)

Most of all it's about cell usage. Transport units consume 10 times less power than Mechs required to carry the same ammount of resources.

Transport units are faster than any Mech in the game.

It would also be hard to organize marketplace with offers using Mechs only.
